There are many reasons why you might want to live stream your wedding celebration, whether you want to get married in an exotic location or have loved ones who can’t attend. Live-streaming is easier than ever thanks to a variety of video-streaming apps and services, allowing you to share the most memorable moments of your wedding with loved ones near and far. Live streaming has exploded in popularity in recent months, and we believe it’s a trend that’s here to stay!
There are a few things you should know before starting the camera. You should be aware of how to live stream your wedding so your virtual guests can enjoy the wedding without feeling left out.

Why do couples live-stream their wedding?
Technology has advanced and it has made possible a lot of things. Hashtags, photo booths, and drone photography have all proved how technology is infiltrating weddings, so it’s only natural that live streaming has jumped on the bandwagon. Earlier live streaming was significantly incorporated.
If you decide to go with live streaming, keep in mind that it should only be used as a last resort for guests who are unable to attend the wedding. It isn’t a choice between the two.
How to pull it off?
Once you’ve decided on live streaming, make sure to test the internet connection at the venue ahead of time. Wi-Fi has improved over time for live streaming, but for the weddings live-streamed, a camera that can be connected to a laptop and a wired internet connection works best. On the day of the ceremony, a professional will be able to troubleshoot any issues and collaborate with the videographer and photographer to make those watching feel like they’re a part of the event. Do you want to do it yourself? You can always use Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube to broadcast live, or you can use dedicated live streaming services like DaCast or Livestream.com.
Choose the Right Platform
When it comes to choosing a platform or service that will allow you to live-stream your wedding, you have several options, including Zoom, Skype, Google Hangout, Facebook, and FaceTime. Keep in mind, however, that there are limitations.
Zoom, a cloud-based video and audio conferencing platform, allows you to broadcast on a private cloud, but the free version only allows for 40-minute calls with up to 100 participants. You’ll have to pay $14.99 for its monthly “pro” product if you want a longer ceremony. In Sydney, You’ll also have to pay $50 to have a video call with up to 500 people.
Google Hangout is also free, but video calls are limited to 25 people. You can upgrade to the basic plan, which allows up to 250 people to join each call (which you can access using a 14-day free trial).
Facebook’s live stream feature is free, has no limit on the number of participants, and can be used for up to eight hours. Although Skype’s group video option is free, it is limited to 50 people. Apple’s Group FaceTime is also free, and it can accommodate up to 32 people. However, guests must have an Apple device (an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch) to participate.
You may be able to save the video on the platform or on YouTube, depending on the service you use.
If you decide to DIY your wedding live stream, there are plenty of platform options thanks to the rise in popularity of live streaming. Facebook Live, Instagram TV, YouTube Live, Twitter Periscope, Amazon Twitch, and Zoom are the most popular streaming platforms. Vimeo Livestream and Dacast, a newcomer, are also excellent choices.

The costs of live-streaming a wedding vary depending on whether you do it yourself with a smartphone, with upgraded equipment, or hire a professional. While you can live stream your wedding for free, we recommend investing in some upgraded equipment if you’re planning ahead of time to ensure optimal sound and image quality.
The number of investment options for professional-quality live streaming continues to grow, with prices ranging from $400 to $3000 depending on your location and needs.
- Start the video experience ahead of time, and have your virtual guests join unmuted so they can greet each other. As they pass the camera on their way to their seats, ask all of your in-person attendees to say hello.
- Share the live stream link with all of your guests, whether they are attending in person or virtually, so they can check in during cocktail hour or after the ceremony to hear from virtual attendees and feel like they are a part of the excitement.
- You can make a virtual shout-out after the speeches. Request that key at-home guests prepare something to say, and then create a loose run order so that they know when they will be called upon to speak. This is also a fantastic opportunity to have in-person attendees address your virtual guests.
